North American Frontier generations use manual or conventional automatic transmissions, not the Nissan CVT step-motor system associated with P1778. A generic scanner may apply a Nissan CVT definition from another model, or the code may come from an incorrectly selected profile, swapped module or data-entry error.

Start by proving where the code came from

Record the scan-tool make, selected vehicle, reporting module, status and raw code bytes. Auto-identification can fail, and a generic database may display the common Nissan CVT step-motor definition without checking whether the truck has a CVT.

Scan every module with Nissan-capable equipment and decode the VIN. If the ECM/TCM does not report P1778 under the correct Frontier profile, preserve the discrepancy rather than creating a repair around a search phrase.

Physically identify the transmission

Use the certification data, VIN build information and transmission identification label to establish manual versus conventional automatic and exact model. Frontier service information then supplies the valid DTC list and connector tests.

A conventional automatic does not contain the CVT ratio-control step motor or the valve body described by NTB10-150a. Ordering those parts for a Frontier is a category error.

North American Frontier did not use the Nissan CVT step-motor system associated with P1778. Confirm VIN, engine, transmission, drivetrain and ECM calibration before applying any code definition or bulletin.
