Document the cap and pressure result
Record filler condition before tightening, then command vent closure and monitor approved pressure. If the system remains stable and purge seals, Nissan identifies a previously loose cap as a possible cause.
The no-leak branch says not to replace EVAP parts. This matters on trucks where dust around the canister may look suspicious without proving leakage.
Inspect the exposed rear system with regulated smoke
Follow vapor lines along the frame for chafe, impact and disturbed clips after tank, bed or exhaust work. Use EVAP-safe pressure and section the system to locate a faint plume.
Apply NTB17-082D only when smoke exits at the vent-valve-to-canister seal. A cracked hose, canister seam or pump-module seal requires its own repair.
Verify purge and monitor completion
Test purge closed-state sealing, especially with hard starting after refueling. A clicking valve can still leak manifold vacuum.

Frontier diagnostics span D22, D40 and D41 trucks with KA24DE, VG33E, QR25DE, VQ40DE and VQ38DD engines, rear- or four-wheel drive, and manual or conventional automatic transmissions. North American Frontier did not use the Nissan CVT step-motor system associated with P1778. Confirm VIN, engine, transmission, drivetrain and ECM calibration before applying any code definition or bulletin.
