WHAT P0301 MEANS

P0301 localizes Optima misfire to cylinder 1 but does not identify the coil. Confirm cylinder 1 on the exact inline-four or early V6 diagram, preserve cold/load counts, inspect the labeled plug and make one controlled ignition comparison. If the count stays, test injector delivery and compression/leak-down. GDI and turbo systems require high-pressure safety. Use one ignition comparison

Keep plug 1 labeled and inspect gap, cracks, fuel wetness and oil ash. Move one known-good coil only when the engine design permits.

If the count stays, return the known-good part. Further swapping loses evidence.

Test fuel and cylinder sealing

Use KDS contribution and pressure data with GDI depressurization rules. A leaking injector can wet the plug and dilute oil.

Measure compression and leak-down at comparable temperature. Valve, cylinder or cam-timing problems can remain on one hole.
