WHAT P0455 MEANS

P0455 means the EVAP monitor could not create or retain expected pressure/vacuum and interpreted the failure as a gross leak or no flow. A loose cap, disconnected hose, purge or vent valve held open, cracked canister, filler/tank seal, pressure-sensor bias or blockage can cause it. Tacoma underbody exposure makes frame-side lines, tank quick-connects and canister/vent damage especially important after off-road impact or service.

Start with the truck's recent underbody history

Ask about rock strikes, recovery points, bed removal, frame work, fuel-pump service and rodent exposure. These clues can take the inspection directly to a disturbed hose or connector.

Do not lower the tank before inspecting accessible frame runs and canister connections. Smoke may reveal the path without major disassembly.

Gross leak can be a valve, not a hole

Control purge and vent while observing tank-pressure response. A valve that clicks but cannot seal presents a large opening to the monitor.

Test circuits and physical sealing independently so electrical activity is not mistaken for vapor control.

Safety inspection and monitor verification are both required

A passing monitor does not excuse a visible liquid-fuel leak, and an odor complaint should not wait solely for readiness. Address physical safety first.
