P0441 means the ECM commanded an EVAP test but did not observe the pressure or flow response expected for that Corolla's strategy. It does not name a purge valve. A cap/filler leak, purge VSV that leaks or cannot flow, vent/closed-valve fault, restricted hose, saturated canister, tank-pressure sensor bias or incorrect routing can all change the result. Older vacuum-switching-valve systems and later leak-detection-pump systems require different isolation sequences.

Preserve the cap and refueling evidence
Before tightening anything, note whether the cap was loose, its seal is cut or the filler surface is damaged. Correcting the cap before reading freeze frame can erase the only useful clue.
Fuel level is not trivia: EVAP monitors operate within calibrated ranges, and liquid expansion in a nearly full tank changes test behavior.
Electrical operation is not vapor control
A purge VSV can click yet leak at zero command or fail to pass the intended flow. Test command voltage/current and physical sealing separately. Apply the same principle to the vent or leak-detection hardware.
When pressure response is wrong, isolate one path at a time instead of replacing every valve. Use Toyota's generation-correct hose diagram so ports are not accidentally reversed.
Smoke-test without damaging the system
Use an EVAP-approved machine and the regulated pressure specified in service information. Unrestricted shop air can damage the canister, sensor or tank.
Watch small seams patiently and move flexible lines gently. Finish by confirming the monitor completes; clearing the lamp alone does not test purge flow.
