Document the cap before changing the evidence
Record whether the cap was seated, then use CONSULT to close the vent and monitor approved pressure. A stable system with a sealed purge valve supports Nissan’s previously loose-cap branch.
In that no-leak decision, Nissan explicitly says not to replace the cap or another EVAP part. This prevents unnecessary canister and valve replacement.
Use smoke to locate—not assume—the vent seal
NTB17-082D requires leakage exactly where the vent valve mounts to the canister and identification of its O-ring as the cause. The bulletin is not a universal vent-valve instruction.
If regulated smoke exits a hose, canister seam, filler or pump-module seal, repair that measured location instead. Never use unrestricted shop air.
Later cars require a separate purge test
NTB13-097h distinguishes service-port vehicles from 2018-and-newer Nissan models without one. The latter connect at the purge line and require a separate purge-valve leak check.
Complete the fuel-level and soak requirements after repair and confirm no pending P0456. A road test alone is not the pressure-retention procedure.

Sentra diagnostics span B15 through B18 generations with QG18DE, MR20DE, QR25DE, HR16DE, MR16DDT, MR20DD and market-specific engines, plus manual, conventional automatic and several CVT designs.
