P0340 means the Sentra ECM lost or rejected its cam-position signal; it does not prove the cam sensor failed. Identify the exact engine connector, inspect harness routing, load-test power, ground and signal, then scope cam against crank. Missing or noisy edges favor a circuit or sensor path. Clean signals with stable phase error plus P0011 or timing noise favor oil-control, chain or reluctor inspection.

Read all codes and identify the engine before unplugging parts. A B16 MR20DE pinout does not automatically apply to a B18 MR20DD or turbo application.

Inspect oil contamination, backed-out terminals and areas disturbed during valve-cover or timing work. A latched shell can hide weak terminal tension.

Verify power and ground under appropriate load and capture signal during crank and idle. Static continuity can pass through a nearly broken wire that fails with heat or vibration.
