P0300 means multiple Forester cylinders misfired or the ECM found no single dominant cylinder. Preserve roughness counts, P0301–P0304 companions, temperature, load, fuel correction and AVCS data. Cold-only, load-only, one-cylinder, one-bank and all-cylinder patterns point to different tests. EJ coil-pack, FB coil-on-plug and FA20DIT systems are not interchangeable. Stop sustained operation when the MIL flashes because raw fuel can rapidly overheat the close-coupled catalyst.

If the misfire does not follow a valid ignition test, check injector contribution, compression and leak-down. Valve sealing, rocker damage or timing error can imitate ignition failure.

Reproduce safely, especially on turbo models

A boost-only breakup should be tested with ignition reserve, fuel pressure and charge-leak data, not repeated full-throttle runs with a flashing lamp. Stop for severe shaking or mechanical noise.

Final proof is stable roughness counts in the original safe condition and no pending P0300. Catalyst testing follows only after combustion remains controlled.
