WHAT P0128 MEANS

P0128 means J35 coolant temperature remained below the PCM's modeled regulation range after sufficient operating time/load. A thermostat stuck open is common, but begin after overnight soak: ECT and IAT should be close to ambient. Graph ECT, time, road speed, engine load, radiator-fan command and heater output. Low coolant, trapped air after service, a cold-biased ECT sensor, unwanted fan operation or an incorrect thermostat can duplicate the code. Towing load, rear HVAC demand and ambient weather affect the trace, but do not replace the need for sensor plausibility and Honda's model-year threshold.

Pilot diagnostics span several J35 V6 generations, cable and electronic throttle systems, port and direct injection, VCM cylinder-deactivation hardware, conventional caps and later capless fillers, plus FWD/AWD drivetrains. The V6 has two cylinder banks and six cylinder-specific misfire codes. Confirm VIN, model year, engine/calibration, emissions label, drivetrain and current Honda bulletin or warranty-extension eligibility before testing or ordering parts.
