Common North American E70 X5 six-cylinder configurations are naturally aspirated N52 or later N55, while BMW's cited N54 VANOS material lists the E71 X6—not E70 X5—as the N54 SAV application. Therefore, a stock X5 showing raw 30FF should first have VIN, engine, DME address, full fault text and scan-tool profile verified. If an N54 swap is confirmed, diagnose the installed charge/vacuum system; an N55 X5 normally follows a 2C57/120308 family path.

Four-digit BMW faults belong to specific DME generations: an E70 N52, E70/F15 N55, V8 and diesel do not share the same VANOS, boost, fuel or cylinder logic.   • A naturally aspirated N52 X5 has no factory turbo system.
  • N55 X5 underboost generally uses a different DME code family.
